In addition to his disgruntled cat housemates, Felix has been receiving
visitors. His paternal grandmother Connie came to spend a few days with him. In
fact, Felix invited her to wash his skivvies, but she gets to play with him as
well.
Felix's grandmother did get to hold him for a
few minutes when she first arrived from the homeland. Felix responded to
her attentions the same way he responds to all well-timed attention, by
sleeping. Fortunately, Connie has had some experience with babies and
takes sleeping in fine spirit.
As part of the grandmotherly visit, Felix got
gifts from his family in New England. He was willing to check one of them
out in detail, a quilt his grandmother made. Grandmothers from New England
make quilts.
This particular quilt is made from pieces of an old shoe-bag found at
an antique sale some years ago. Each of the panes depicts a child playing
a game.
Felix's grandfather Glenn made a book all
about his life, which takes in a fair bit of recent history. This history
occurred in black and white until Felix's grandfather was a teenager. He
was, as he points out in the book, a beautiful baby. We all wonder what
happened..
Felix's current interest in the book is approximately nil. We'll show
it to him again in a few years.
Felix's aunt Kim would have loved holding
him.
This is a cross-stitch pattern that Kim made. In the future, when
cross-stitch patterns are all made by autonomous cross-stitch-pattern
robots in space, Felix will have even more reason to cherish this item
from his late aunt.
